Latest Project
Inspired by good friend and talented photographer Nell, and now continually motivated by other good friends and photographers Yvonne, Courtney and Bryn, I currently engaged in a little thing called the 365 Project. A picture a day for 365 days.
We didn’t agree to a set a rules as a group, but, in order to keep myself on track, I made a set for myself:
1) Take a picture every day.
2) Post a picture every day (this is where my own interpretation of the process fits in-I have decided that I will post my pictures the day after I take them. This allows me time to review/crop/color correct/whatever in the morning, without worrying when I get home at 2 am that I still have to post a photo. I also start every day with the small success of having already posted my photo. And I enjoy following responses to my pictures during the day).
3) Posted pictures MUST be the picture I took the day before. No hording a bunch of pictures taken on Saturday and posting them one at a time during the week. That defeats my own personal goal of forcing myself to take a picture every day.
I am on day 6. Here is what I have shot so far:
Not even a week. And I feel like I have already learned so much. For example, I am noticing patterns in the way I select my subjects and frame my shots. I am already feeling like I am in a rut with my photos, which inspires me to try to view my world differently, in hopes of ‘seeing’ the millions of amazing photos out there that I am not even noticing. I cannot WAIT until I do. Following the work of my fellow 365ers has been great for this. I find myself looking at their pictures, and wondering why they chose that photo, that lighting, that shot. Why did they choose that picture?
And I am learning more about modifying my pictures. Previously, most of my photos went relatively unaltered-I just chose the best ones, and typically cropped them a bit. But I have a couple of instances where I didn’t love anything that I had shot that day, but because I had to post SOMETHING I spent time trying to adjust the pictures until I had something I could be proud of. Photo #5, the window reflection, is a case of that.
I am really excited about this project. Photo safaris are ON people! Wanna go shoot pics? I am your lady!
Now, off to put together something for Day 7. It is 7pm and I haven’t shot a single picture yet. Have to see what I can come up with, because, after all, I have to take a picture of something!
You can follow my progress on my flickr page, or view the pictures that didn’t make it into my 365 Project Set, the so-called 365 Project Seconds.
I can promise you that they will be updated daily!

Rock on.

Double rock on. My favorite so far is the tires with the reflection in the water. Beautiful! I found the same thing yesterday… about not having a shot and having to create a photo that I ended up liking by messing with it after the fact with Lightroom. So glad you’re doing this with me! xo
